There’s little to match the breathtaking, heart-wrenchingly lovely scenery of an Austria tour - and we’ll make sure you’ll experience the very best that this enchanting country has to offer. Magnificent snow-capped alpine peaks, lush green pastures, deep forests, tumbling waterfalls, crystal clear meltwater streams and placid lakes all combine to create a sense of natural perfection that’s sometimes hard to take in. No tour of Austria would be complete without a visit to the Grossglockner – the country’s highest mountain at nearly 12,500 feet.
Our journey follows one of Europe’s oldest and most celebrated alpine routes, with a spectacular show of glaciers, valleys and peaks as we twist our way up to the “Emperor’s viewpoint” – with eagles soaring above and ibex patrolling the slopes and ridges. The Salzkammergut, Austria’s own stunning Lake District, will delight you with its tranquil glacial waters, sparkling shores, towering limestone mountain slopes and tiny unspoilt villages.
Nature at its forceful best is waiting for you at the Krimml waterfalls – an amazing three-tiered series of falls that plunge 1200 feet from icy glaciers, accompanied by the roar of huge volumes of cascading water and dense clouds of spray that hang over the lush forests below. But we tear ourselves away from all this spellbinding scenery on our Austria tour to spend some time too in the cultural world. The beautiful old baroque city of Salzburg echoes everywhere to reminders of Mozart, its most famous and precociously talented son who played the piano at three, was writing music at five and went on to compose over six hundred works.
You’ll also enjoy the many surprises of the spectacular 17th century Hellbrunn Palace - famous for its trick fountains, water games and beautiful Mirabell Gardens with their geometrical arrangements, boxwood layouts and mythological statues that formed part of the backdrop to the much-loved Sound of Music. All this is yours on your unforgettable tour to Austria.
