Parkroyal Resort – Penang

With a prime position on the soft sands of Batu Ferringhi beach, the four-star superior Parkroyal Resort is located very close to the area’s popular night market and about half an hour’s drive from central George Town. The beautiful free-form pool is set in lush tropical gardens leading down to the beach and sunset bar. Other facilities include a fitness centre, tennis court and Spa. Besides plenty of local restaurants outside the property, the hotel’s own dining options are also varied: choose from Tamarind Brasserie’s all-day dining buffet, the Cool Bananas poolside café or Uncle Zak by the Beach serving local tapas and fresh seafood. Hotel Maya – Kuala Lumpur

The four-star superior Hotel Maya is very centrally located in KL, just an eight minute walk to the Petronas Twin Towers. Facilities include the Maya Brasserie, open for breakfast and dinner as well as a Deli for light snacks and patisserie, plus an a la carte ‘fusion’ restaurant. There’s also a hydrotherapy pool, a fitness room and luxurious Spa. The 207 spacious and contemporary air-conditioned rooms feature large floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning views of the KL skyline. Sabah Hotel – Sandakan

The three-star superior Sabah Hotel is located in a quiet leafy area but still close to the bustling centre of Sandakan. Facilities include a main restaurant, lobby bar and a large swimming pool. Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa – Kota Kinabalu

The Shangri-La Rasa Ria is a luxurious five-star resort set on a fabulous one and a half-mile beach and surrounded by its own 18-hole championship golf course and a 68–acre nature reserve. Located a 40-minute drive from Kota Kinabalu city and on clear days you can spot the peaks of Mt Kinabalu in the distance. Besides the long white-sand beach, there’s a huge free-form pool, fitness room, tennis courts and the renowned Chi Spa. Activities include a variety of watersports, bicycle tours, a river boat trip, horse riding, fishing, diving golf and walks through the resort’s nature reserve. As you would expect, the resort offers numerous excellent dining options: breakfast is taken at the Coffee Terrace, which is also open for lunch and dinner with international and Asian buffets; open in the evening, the Naan Indian restaurant combines the Moghul cuisine of northern India with the tropical spices of Goa, whilst the Japanese Kozan teppanyaki restaurant is a fun experience as the chef cooks the food in front of you. For even more variety, there’s also the Tepi Laut – set out as a series of open-fronted shop-houses specialising in different Asian cuisines and finally there’s also the Oceano Italian restaurant, which are both open for lunch as well. The resort has 499 rooms and Riviera guests will stay in the Garden Wing where the rooms include bath/shower, hairdryer, safe, minibar, cable TV, tea/coffee-maker, free wifi, a private balcony facing towards the sea and with view of the extensive beautifully landscaped gardens.

Located on the Singapore River right opposite Clarke Quay, just steps away from some of the best dining options in the city. Even more restaurants are available along Boat Quay, only a few minutes’ stroll along the pleasant riverfront promenade. The nearby metro station offers quick connections to all parts of the city. The hotel has a large open-air pool with al fresco dining, a large multi-cuisine restaurant with a la carte and buffet options, a lobby bar, spa and fitness centre.
